Obituary

Wanda Sue Hammons Engel, 75 of Artemus, died Friday. May 1, 2015 at her home. Wanda was born January 2, 1940 on Brice's Creek to the late Richard and Ada (Graham) Hammons. She united in marriage December 23, 1961 to Rev. John Engel. She was a retired cook for Knox County Schools, and a member of Artemus Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by grandson, Brandon Alan Engel, a sister, Cora Dedmon Fowler, brothers, Rosamond Hammons and Frank Hammons, sisters-in-law, Zelma Baker Hammons, Rita Evans Hammons, Ethel Hammons, and Polly Hammons, Brothers-in-law, Paul Dedmon, Ted Davis Campbell, Warren Fowler, Chester Martin, and sons-in-law, Ernie Lovitt and Freddie Farthing.

Surviving in addition to her husband, John, is a son, John Timothy (Tracie) Engel of Williamsburg, Ohio, daughters, Dinah Kathryn Lovitt of Richmond, Kentucky and Nora Elizabeth Farthing of Artemus, brothers, Ernest (Florence) Hammons of Kingsport, Tennessee and Luther (Edna Mae) Hammons of Flat Lick, and a sister, Nora Campbell of Artemus, grandchildren, Erin Michelle (Matt) Hale, Jonathan Farthing, Erica Engel, Sarah Farthing and Leslie Engel.

Funeral services for Wanda Sue Hammons Engel will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Partin and Rev Ralph Halcomb officiating. Burial will follow in Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Bowling, Glen McDonald, Jerry Boles, Danny Angel, David Wright, George Hammons and Jerry Hammons. Honorary pallbearers are, a special honorary, Jeffrey Sturdivant, Dena Willis, Angie Landrum, Miss Miranda, Professional Home Health Care, and her church family.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 pm Monday, and after 10 am Tuesday at the funeral home. The Engel family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Gideons International.

Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
