Obituary

William "Dub" Smith, age 88, of London, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Saint Joseph Hospital in London, Kentucky.  He was a son of the late  John and Callie (Hubbard) Smith, born to them on January 28, 1930 in Knox County.  Mr. Smith was a retired Core Driller for ATEC.

On February 22, 1952, he united in marriage to Laura Mae Phipps, and to this union four children: Virgil, Jerry, Wendell and Laquada were born.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers: Ruby Smith, Dewey Smith, Stanford Smith, Jessie Smith, Oda Doolin, Letha Mills, Mae Fisher and Helen Hubbard; and by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: R. J. Smith, Riley Doolin, Sie Mills, June and Leroy Whitlock, Dale Hubbard and Carol Smith; his daughter-in-law: Patricia Jean Smith; and by his grandson: Willie Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 66 years: Laura Mae Phipps Smith of London.  His children: Virgil Smith of Taylor, Michigan; Jerry Smith and wife, Gloria of Barbourville; Wendell Smith of Barbourville; and Laquada Hampton and husband, Bobby of London. His grandchildren: John T. Smith, Travis Smith and wife Patty, Jeremy Smith, Rachel Warren and husband Neal,  Laura Benge and Regina Hampton.  His great grandchildren:  Riley Smith, Reagan Benge, Jayda Benge, Maddox Warren, Nathan Warren, Mackenzie Smith, Makayla Smith and Conner Smith. His brother: Fred Smith of Taylor, Michigan; and his brother-in-law: Charles Fisher of Heidrick; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives, and dear friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral Services for William "Dub" Smith will be 12:00 noon Friday, May 4, 2018 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sylvester Dunn officiating.  Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery on Bargo Hill at Heidrick.

Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Doyle Fisher, David Spivey, Neal Warren, Jeremy Smith, Travis Smith and Bobby Hampton.

Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: The Staff and Residents of the Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly in London; and all Friends and Neighbors.

The Smith family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, and on Friday after 9:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.

Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
