William H. Hammons, Sr., age 73, of Flat Lick, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Baptist Health in Corbin, Kentucky. He was a son of the late Chester Arthur and Ruby Lee Pursiful Hammons, born to them on January 3, 1944 at Mud Lick on Stinking Creek in Knox County.
He was a Retired Union Pipe Fitter for Chrysler Automotive; a well known Knox County Entrepreneur Businessman; a member of the Dewitt Baptist Church; a member of the Mountain Masonic Lodge #187 F. & A.M. of Barbourville; and he loved Antique and Classic Cars.
On October of 1983, he united in marriage to Sharon Elizabeth Jenner Hammons, and she preceded him in death on May 17, 2012.
Along with his parents, and his wife; he was also preceded in death by a brother: Chester Arthur Hammons, Jr., and a brother-in-law: Walter Powell, Jr.
William is survived by his loving family: His sons: William H. Hammons, Jr. of Ecorse, Michigan; and Jeffrey C. Hammons and wife, Soandra L. of Oreland, Pennsylvania.
His grandchildren: Lindsy B. Irwin, Jeffrey C. Hammons, Jr., and Jennifer Hammons.
His great grandchildren: Keira Alyssa Person and Emilynn Rae Abrams.
His special loving sister: Patricia Louise Hammons Powell of Barbourville; his niece: Leigh Margaret Powell-Martin and husband, Phillip of Pineville; his nephew: Walter "Wally" Powell, III., and wife, Jennifer Blevins Powell of Gray; his great nephew: Justin M. Powell; and his great nieces: Lauren E. Powell and Kelsey M. Powell.
His very special friend: Carson "Cooch" North; and many other relatives, and dear friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral Services for William H. Hammons, Sr. will be 2:30 P.M. Saturday, January 21, 2017 in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jay Barnett officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick.
Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Family and Friends.
Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: The Esteemed Hammons Family.
The Hammons family will receive friends after 6:00 P.M. on Friday at the Hopper Funeral Home, and after 9:00 A.M. on Saturday until the hour of service.
Hopper Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
